The City of Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe’s conference and tourism capital this week hosts a high-level conference of accountants drawing over 350 participants from across Africa.
Coming from the low tourism season in the first quarter of the year, the conference marks a pick in terms of arrivals into the City.
The 10th edition of the Zimbabwe Accountants Conference (ZAC 2026) is being hosted by the Public Accountants and Auditors Board (PAAB) and Institute of Chartered Accountants of Zimbabwe (ICAZ), and will take place from April 9 to April at a local hotel.
It will run under the theme: “Reimagining the Accountancy Profession for Sustainable Growth, Trust and Global Relevance” with high-ranking dignitaries set to speak about crucial updates in financial regulation, sustainability and investor confidence.
The Victoria Falls City Council acts as the primary facilitator and strategic planner for establishing the City as a premier MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) destination.
Victoria Falls is a premier, rapidly growing MICE destination, blending world-class conferencing facilities with iconic natural scenery, offering unique and high-end corporate experiences amid adrenaline adventures making the City a top choice for international and regional events.
Through infrastructure development, public-private partnerships, and sustainable policies, the council aligns with national goals to make the City a “smart and sustainable destination of choice.
Council works with the private sector in destination management especially through initiatives like the ‘We Are Victoria Falls’ to coordinate tourism, improve visitor experiences and manage the destination sustainably.
One of Council’s commitments is to ensure a lasting impression for visitors, both local and international, by making sure service delivery is reliable and accessible.
The City leverages its strategic position and status as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) to attract investment in hotels, transport and venues, turning it into a conferencing capital.
Council strives to balance growth and sustainability and therefore, encourages environmental stewardship and to ensure that benefits of these MICE activities are felt by the local community beyond just tourism operators.
These high-profile events drive economic growth, enabling the Council to improve municipal services and raise revenue through taxes and rates.
Council aims to drive economic development, facilitate hotel occupancy and employment, making tourism—specifically business tourism—the core of the local economy, since the City realises its benefits through increased revenue from tourism spending, enhanced international visibility, infrastructure development and higher employment rates.
Already the City boasts of the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange, the only United States dollar denominated bourse in the region
Speakers for the conference will be drawn from a cross section of industry and society professionals from across the globe and focus are is launch of Zimbabwe’s Sustainability Reporting Implementation Roadmap, aligning with international standards, according to the programme.
The Sustainability Roadmap will be launched on 10 April when delegates will also have an opportunity to sample various attractions across the City.
The conference ends on 11 April with delegates expected to travel out the following day.
