Victoria Falls City Council is the second best performing public sector in the country after scooping Platinum at the recent 2025 Megafest National Business Awards held in Harare.
The awards, hosted by Megafest Holdings, are held annually and are in their 18th edition since inception.

In September last year, the City scooped Platinum in the Outstanding Public Sector of the year at the 17th Megafest Southern Region Awards in Bulawayo, earning automatic entry to compete for the national accolade.
Scooping diamond was the Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council while the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) scooped gold, to complete the top three outstanding public sector entities nationally.
Under the leadership of Mr Ronnie Dube, the Town Clerk who also emerged with platinum award as the Outstanding Public Sector leader of the year at the same awards, Victoria Falls City Council has championed a number of projects and initiatives that feed into national Vision 2030.
The City’s development control measures have helped guide sustainable growth in the tourism capital, where Spatial Planning and Governance have been balanced towards Smart Growth for a Shared Future, driving sustainable urban growth, tourism expansion and modern infrastructure.
Victoria Falls attained City status on 9 December 2020.
Last year in January the City was named achieved a global milestone of being named among 31 new Wetland Cities in the world, to become the first and only Wetland City in Zimbabwe in recognition of wise use of wetlands and management of the environment.
Victoria Falls was proclaimed a national monument in 1935 and granted a Local Board status in 1965 before being declared a Town Council in 1971.
It was declared a World Heritage site in 1989. The upgrade into a Municipality came in September 1999 where the power to manage land was through a Deed of Grant.
The awards recognise outstanding contribution of business and individuals to the economy.
There were 42 awards individual and institutional categories in total.
In the individual category, Mr Dube came second to diamond winner Mr Farai Machinga from ZNFPC, the entity that beat the City in the Public Sector of the year award with the same medal.
Mr Mathias Begede from the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society scooped gold in 3rd position.
The City’s Fiance Director Mr Neville Ndlovu scooped gold in the Outstanding CFO of the year whose diamond medal went to Ms Lindiwe Whata from Redcliff Municipality while Mr platinum went to Mr Wirimayi Chimbongore of Wild Horizons also in Victoria Falls.
Also collecting awards from other local authorities were Mr Gibson Chakauya, the Redcliff Town Clerk who scooped diamond in the Outstanding Local Authority leader category where Mr Jabulani Gute the CEO of Gokwe Rural District Council scooped platinum while Mr Nehemiah Deure of Chimanimani RDC and Councillor Busisiwe Brown of Umguza RDC scooped gold and silver respectively.
Also excelling from Victoria Falls was Mr Ozius Marange of Makomwe Transport and Hardware who scooped gold in Outstanding businessman of the year category which had the likes of Dr Phillip Chiyangwa, Mr Anthony Richards and Mr Winston Guyo.
