The City of Victoria Falls recently commemorated World Wellness Day through a cocktail of activities in an effort to promote a healthy culture and teamwork among staff.
World Wellness Day is commemorated every second Saturday of June annually.
The City held its commemorations on Friday 13 June.
The day started with a march from Victoria Falls Hospital along Madonkini Road, into Pioneer Road, then Livingstone Way up to the Council Town Offices.
At the venue, Khumbuza Ncube, a council staffer better known as Bhorabhora and Emmanuel Moyo popularly known as Manu the Poet provided entertainment keeping the over 300 spectators on the edge of their chairs.
The Junior Council and Mosi-oa-Tunya High School learners acted a drama that raised awareness on gender-based and domestic violence and drug abuse while the Council Fire Section also provided some emergency drills.
The highlight of the day was the Zumba dance which saw all participants including councillors and management take part.
Various stakeholders from the medical and banking sector exhibited at the event where they provided various services free of charge.
Ward 8 Councillor Priscilla Mhlanga, the City’s gender champion said this year’s theme: “ReconnectMagenta”—was a powerful call to slow down, live consciously and reconnect with nature as a way of overcoming life’s daily challenges.
“We are gathered to commemorate Wellness Day, a day dedicated to promoting physical, mental and emotional well-being especially among workers. It is a time to pause, reflect and take meaningful steps toward a healthier life. In simple terms, today is about learning to watch your health.
“It reminds us to walk gently through life, reflect on our habits and make choices that support long-term wellness. We are fortunate to live in a City that places value on the well-being of its workers.,” said Cllr Mhlanga.
Wellness Day is a reminder for workplace health and for one to re-evaluate routines and adopt practices that improve quality of life, eating balanced meals, staying hydrated and taking time for rest and exercise.
This also includes stretching before and after work, doing chores, taking a short walk, meditating or even dancing.
Exercising and eating healthy are powerful tools to reduce stress and prevent many lifestyle-related conditions.
Stakeholders that partnered with the City on Wellness Day are Rosmar Events, Kawusoko Creations, Calm Health International, Vic Falls Fruits & Veg, Victoria Falls Hospital, Council for the Blind, Friendship Bench, ZRP, Chinotimba Clinic, Vic Falls Pharmacy, Lancet Laboratory, ZNFPC, Care Link, ZB Bank, Parksmed, Booties Pharmacy, Mosi-oa-Tunya High School.
