The much anticipated 15th Meeting of the Conference of Contracting Parties to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (COP15) has started in Victoria Falls.
The City kicked off the 10-day Conference by hosting a delegation from the City of Nagoya, Japan which paid a courtesy call on the City on Tuesday. The Mayor, His Worship Councillor Prince Thuso Moyo was supposed to host his Nagoya counterpart, Mayor Ichiro Hirosawa who unfortunately did not travel and was represented by Ms. Kumiko Shima, Director-General of the Environmental Affairs Bureau of Nagoya City, who carried the Mayor’s message. Attended by the City’s top management and directors, the courtesy call unlocks potential twinning and partnership between the two cities. Discussions touched on possible cooperation on waste management, technology, research, tourism, community involvement and youth participation in environmental management. Both Cities have been accredited as Wetland Cities. Victoria Falls and Nagoya are both members of the World Tourism Cities Federation Council. Also in the picture is Emily Sibanda, better known as Emy the Poet who welcomed the visitors with moving poem, showing Victoria Falls’ hospitality.
