City on Friday 10 April held an interactive meeting, the first such, with parents/guardians of Junior Councillors in an effort to apprise them about Junior Council, it’s operations, significance and what is expected from either party among other issues. Parents and guardians appreciated the gesture saying they had been empowered with understanding of the JC operations and pledged to fully support Junior Council.
The City is implementing a partnership with Livingstone City Council of Zambia and Dorotea of Sweden under the support of the Swedish International Centre for Democracy (ICLD) where a myriad of lessons have been learnt from the partnership with focus on youth empowerment.
These include youth inclusion, entrepreneurship and partnerships among others.
These would enhance business partnerships and youth programmes while strengthening Junior Council.
Notable gaps are absence of private sector and stakeholder support for Junior Council in particular and young people in general. In that regard, it has been noted that partnership is strategic while youth are key to development.
