Council has started consulting residents and stakeholders to rename suburbs and streets.
After rolling out the consultations in ward 1 early this month, the exercise moved to Ward 2 recently.
Ward 1 residents who met in the Council Boardroom, proposed that Low Density which had been without a proper since inception decades ago, be named Baobab.
Names were also proposed for BB7. These include Park View.
Some roads in the ward were also named after flora and fauna.
Ward 2 residents, largely CBZ stands suggested Falcon for the medium density part of the suburb, Kazungula for the section near Farm School and Masuwe for the section near Truck Stop.
Flora and fauna names were also suggested for 31 roads.
The process will continue for all wards that have streets and suburbs to be renamed.
Renaming streets and suburb follows a Government directive and is meant to enhance service delivery while also ensuring order in the City.
Ward 2 Councillor Tafadzva Mutowa Councillor said the development rubberstamps the philosophy “Ilizwe Lakhiwa ngabaninilo” as he said “the ward is built by its own people.” He appealed to residents to attend meetings.
Meanwhile, the Councillor took the opportunity to lead his constituents towards election of a ward development committee to enhance transparency, efficiency and reliability in service delivery and engagement in the ward.
The committee will be a vital link between the residents and Council and other developmental partners thereby enhancing good governance.
Those elected are Mr Austin Ndlovu (chair), Ms Namakau Mubita (organising secretary), Mr Phatness Chihora as treasurer, while Mr Misheck Mudenda and Mr Courageous Machingambi are committee members.
The post of vice chair and secretary were left vacant so they could be filled by a section that did not attend the meeting.
