Environmentalist Nqobile Mkwananzi, also known as the Rhino Man, arrived in Victoria Falls midday this Tuesday after completing a 760 km walk from Beitbridge to the Wetland City.
Mkhwananzi has been doing these annual walks for the past 5 years, starting from Matopo to Victoria Falls and this year decided to start from Beitbridge, connecting Limpopo and Zambezi.
He started on September 1 in Beitbridge.
The walk ended at the Rainforest after which he visited the City’s Town offices for a courtesy call.
His “Miles For Conservation”, is an annual walk he undertakes to raise awareness about environmental management and to fundraise against littering, pollution, climate change, promote climate action, wetland conservation and wise use of the environment.
The walk falls in September, the Tourism Month, and month where the International Rhino Day is observed.
It came after Victoria Falls hosted the 15th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties (COP15) where Mkhwananzi was part of the City of Victoria Falls team that helped prepare for the conference, where the City also received certification for being a Wetland City.
Mkhwananzi is grateful to individuals, corporates and departments that have assisted his cause, but appeals to citizens to avoid littering especially along the highways and also to support conservation work.
During and after the walk, Mkhwananzi also donates books to environmental clubs in different schools through his initiative “More Knowledge With Action (MKWA).
