The City of Victoria Falls has taken a long journey towards accreditation as a Ramsar Wetlands City. The accreditation was done on 28 January 2025 in recognition of the wise use of wetlands by the City and partners who include community, private sector and tourism industry players. The City has the Victoria Falls, which is one of the seven designated wetlands in Zimbabwe, Chamabondo Vlei, the City’s Water Treatment wetland, vlei behind Ilala and another behind Shearwater Village. Wetlands are important ecosystems that regulate biodiversity, climate and other processes as they act as water sponges.
